Bangtan Boys (also known as Bulletproof Boy Scouts & BTS) are a 7-member South Korean hip-hop group under Big Hit Entertainment. The meaning of their group name Bulletproof Boy Scouts/Bangtan
is “to block out the world’s bullets”, and their fanclub name A.R.M.Y stands for “Adorable Representative
M.C for Youth”.
BTS is known for having talented members, capable of composing, writing and performing their own music.
The group consists of 7 members: Rap Monster (leader, rapper), Jin (visual/vocal), Suga (rapper), JHope
(rapper/dancer), V (4D, vocal), Jimin (vocal, dancer), and Jungkook (maknae, vocal, rapper, dancer).
On predebut times, JHope has appeared on several music programs due to his feature in 2AM Jo Kwon’s
single, "Animal", plus the rest of the members appeared in Jo Kwon's "I'm Da One" MV. They have also
released a lot of cover tracks including Kendrick Lamar's "Swimming Pools (Drank)" which they titled it as
“School of Tears”. The track was produced by Jin, Rap Monster & Suga and track walks into the functioning
of modern society, especially the school system, and its backward ways.
Members J-Hope, Jungkook and Jimin have produced "Graduation Song", which was a cover track of
Wiz Khalifa's "Young, Wild, & Free" while V was kept a secret member until the initial release of their
debut teasers for "No More Dream".
The group officially debuted on June 13, 2013 on M! Countdown with their single “No More Dream” from their
debut album “2Cool 4 Skool”. On July 16, 2013 they released another single titled "We are Bulletproof Pt. II".
On September 11, 2013 they made their comeback with their title song 'N.O' for their 1st mini-album “O! RUL8 2?”, as well as briefly doing “Satoori Rap”. They followed up on November 6, 2013 with
“The Rise of Bangtan” promotions.
They starred in their own variety show called Rookie King, which premiered on September 3, 2013 with a
total of 8 episodes. They have won the title of "New Artist of the Year" at several music awards including
the 2013 MelOn Music Awards, Golden Disk Awards, 2014 Seoul Music Awards and Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards.
On January 2014, Big Hit had announced that BTS will be having their comeback on February 12. Big Hit
revealed to media outlets stating that their new album will reflect teens' idea of love and the members
directly participated in the production of the songs in this album. They made their comeback on February 12, 2014
with their title song ‘Boy In Luv’ for their 2nd mini album”Skool Luv Affair”. Shortly after they have released
"Just One Day" MV on April 6, 2014.
In early March 2014, it was announced that the boys were scheduled for their Japanese official debut.
On June 4, 2014 they officially debut their Japanese version of their debut single “No More Dream” and
on July 16, 2014 they released their Japanese version of “Boy In Luv” as their 2nd single.
Later in July, they went to Los Angeles to record their reality show called “American Hustle Life” to
help them learn and experience the hip hop culture along with mentors Tony Jones, Nate Walka, Coolio
& Warren G. On July 14th, they showcased their first concert in US called “BTS: Show & Prove” where t
hey wanted to show everyone what they have learned during their journey in LA. The reality show aired on
July 24, 2014 on MNET with a total of 8 episodes.
On August 20, 2014 they made their comeback for their 1st full album called “Dark&Wild” with their single
“Danger”. When their “Dark&Wild” promotions were finishing, Big Hit officially announced that BTS will be
doing their 1st concert in Seoul, Korea titled “BTS 2014 Live Trilogy - Episode II: The Red Bullet” that will be
held on October 17,19 in AXKOREA. And the tour will continue in other Asian countries including Thailand,
Singapore, Philippines, and Japan.
They are now scheduled to released their 3rd Japanese single titled “Danger” on November 19, 2014 and
continue their “BTS 2014 Live Trilogy - Episode II: The Red Bullet” in 2015.
